Jennifer Johnson is an accomplished and credentialed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with expertise in women’s health and forensic nursing. She holds certifications as an Advanced Forensic Nurse, and Board-Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for pediatrics, adults, and adolescents. With a career spanning over two decades, Jennifer has made significant contributions to the advancement of forensic nursing, both in clinical practice and through education.


Dr. Johnson's academic journey began with an associate degree in nursing from Fort Scott College in 1996, followed by a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in 1998. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2002, and in 2017, she achieved her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Maryville University in St. Louis.


A recognized leader in the field, Dr. Johnson, has directed and developed a comprehensive forensic nursing program in the Midwest, providing critical medical forensic examinations for individuals impacted by violence. As the President and Owner of Johnson Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC, she offers expert forensic case reviews and provides testimony in both state and federal courts in cases involving medical negligence, wrongful death, and other complex medical-legal matters.


Dr. Johnson’s passions are advancing the field of forensic nursing and her role in educating law enforcement, attorneys, and healthcare providers on the critical importance of the medical forensic examination. Her outreach work has helped shape the understanding of the forensic nurse examiner’s role in the justice system.


Jennifer is an appointed member of several professional and governmental organizations, and she is a Co-Founder of the Academy of Forensic Nursing. Through these affiliations, she has had a direct impact on shaping policy, standards, and best practices in forensic nursing.


In her work with the Academy of Forensic Nursing, Jennifer has gained a deep understanding of the organization’s mission and strategic goals. Her extensive experience has shaped her vision for the Academy’s future, and she is now poised to take on a more strategic leadership role. With her comprehensive insight into the organization's operations, strengths, and challenges, Dr. Johnson is committed to driving growth, enhancing collaboration, and ensuring that the Academy continues to engage effectively with its community and stakeholders. She believes that, together, we can amplify our collective impact and further advance the Academy’s mission to elevate the field of forensic nursing and the healthcare professionals who serve in this critical role.
