Frankie Wallis

Dr. Frankie Wallis is the Associate Vice-President for Emergency / ED Trauma Services at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.  This role has responsibility for the emergency departments within the UAB Hospital structure, including the University Emergency Trauma Burn ED, and Critical Care Transport. His clinical experience has included health care across the lifespan, primarily focusing on emergency, critical care, psychiatric settings, and nursing administration. Dr. Wallis has served as a family nurse practitioner in adult and pediatric settings. He has held various leadership positions with several hospitals and healthcare organizations. Dr. Wallis retired from law enforcement following a 25+ year career, ultimately serving as Chief of Police. The majority of Dr. Wallis' law enforcement career centered around criminal investigations. Upon completing his DNP in 2013, Dr. Wallis accepted a full-time appointment as an Associate Professor at Samford University. In 2017, he returned to clinical practice in his current role. Dr. Wallis has been an adjunct instructor teaching clinical and didactic courses for many years. His current teaching assignments concentrate on Forensic Nursing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and leadership. He is co-chair for the Alabama State Nursing Association Leadership Academy and has previously served as State Treasurer for the Alabama Nurses Foundation.


He received his Associate Degree from Sylacauga Hospital School of Nursing – Central Alabama Community College, his BSN and MSN from Jacksonville State University, and his Family Nurse Practitioner and DNP from Samford University. Dr. Wallis has completed post-doctoral work in Health Care Leadership, Forensic Nursing, and Health Care Quality and Safety. Wallis maintains credentials as an online certified instructor and advanced nursing administration. Dr. Wallis holds non-nursing degrees in law enforcement and criminal justice. He is a graduate of the FBI Academy.


Goal: Continue the collaborative initiatives established by AFN to further enhance initiatives of the AFN's strategic plan. Enhancing programs and collaborative approaches with the various intersecting system colleagues will further embark on the future state.
