Hello colleagues! I hope you all are faring well enough during these strange and stressful times......so grateful for technology!!
I am in a new position in a CAC and have been "given" an LPN to work with me on child medical evaluation. She is a bright and eager co-worker who just earned her LPN within the past 8 months; currently trying to get into an RN program. I am excited to guide her into the world of providing care to our kiddos in this unique environment!
My question: do you know of any online resources or books I should consider that would be skill/education appropriate to help me educate her on child medical exams (physical and sexual)? I am confident in what I can teach her as a mentor and have trained SANEs and been involved in training non-forensic nurses/aids in evidence collections, basic forensic awareness. I am beginning my search for resources for her and was hoping you all might have some ideas. She will not be doing evidence collection. Also, any tips/advice/concerns are welcome for discussion!
Thank you for reading and considering!!

Christine,
Good for you for mentoring her as a new LPN> Her role is limited but she can do many things to learn. There is a Peds SA book in the AFN Book Store that you can order for her to start reviewing. If you pull your Peds nursing book that you used in RN school that is basic and will help her as well. The Pediatric growth and development knowledge is very important as well. Have a great day.....and email me if you have any other questions dfaugno@afnmail.org
