The Academy of Forensic Nursing is delighted to welcome Patricia ‘Trish’ McKnight for this upcoming Member's Only AFN Webinar - Under the Umbrella: Family Facilitated Child Trafficking
Human Trafficking doesn’t just happen at truck stops, hotels, or rest stops. When these areas become increasingly trained and the risk of being reported becomes too high; the traffickers become more reclusive. The one true power needed to exploit or enslave another human being is the ability to silence victims. It is the only way the trafficker can continue, and often survivors of familial harm will retain that silence and suffering far into adulthood, without ever disclosing injuries, addictions, or mental illness resonating from their traumas. As we learn about the darkest areas of these offenses, we address the barriers of victims to seeking help. It permits a window to a conversation, which opens the door to rescue, care, and safety.
This presentation provides an inside awareness and empowers skills for early intervention, identification, and assistance for those affected by sexual harm and human trafficking. This presentation also provides a dark survivor story, created by this presenter from her
terrorized journey. In sharing hidden red flags and warning signs, along with initiating healthy interactions with victims; in this combination of strategies, attendees will be able to intervene early, and provide ongoing medical and emotional care to aid in survivor resilience.
