The effective detection and management of sexually transmitted infections (STI) in our patient populations are integral to health and overall well-being. Of concern are patients who have experienced sexual assault as they are at particular risk and require STI evaluation immediately following the assault, as well as during the recommended follow up examination. It is important that caregivers are competent and confident when caring for this vulnerable and complex patient population.
This webinar will provide an overview of the medications typically offered to patients who have experienced sexual assault. The webinar will focus on building skills to rapidly evaluate and assess the needs of your regional patient population. The discussion will focus particularly on medication updates for Pregnancy Prophylaxis – such as Ella and Plan B, as well as HIV nPEP (Non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis), and the ability to provide a low to no cost 30-day post-exposure regimen to your patients.
Don't miss your opportunity to:
- Understand the difference between Ella and Plan B and how they relate to the care of the sexual assault patient.
- Understand antibiograms and the importance of regionally specific antimicrobial susceptibility testing data.
- Understand how to assist patients to obtain HIV nPEP at a greatly reduced cost to the patient.
- Identify clear informational resources for information on sexually transmitted infections impacting patients who have experienced recent sexual assault.
