AFN Seeks Members for Financial Committee

AFN is seeking members interested in serving on the Financial Oversight Committee (FOC), a standing committee of the Board of Directors (BOD). The Executive Committee, on behalf of the BOD, is announcing a call for applications for three (3) committee members who will serve in two-year term increments.

The purpose of the AFN FOC will be to support the elected Treasurer in ensuring that the organization's finances are managed properly, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations. This can help protect the organization from lawsuits and ensure its financial stability.

A qualified member for a financial oversight committee typically possesses significant experience in areas like accounting, budgeting, finance, investments, banking, and auditing. Candidates should also demonstrate strong financial literacy and the ability to critically analyze complex financial data.

The following key qualifications for a financial oversight committee member are preferred:

  • Financial Expertise: Deep understanding of financial statements, accounting principles (GAAP), budgeting, cash flow analysis, and financial modeling.

  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the specific industry the organization operates in, including relevant regulations and market trends.

  • Audit Experience: Knowledge of internal control procedures and audit processes, ideally with experience working with external auditors.

  • Risk Assessment Skills: Ability to identify potential financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.

Committee Responsibilities

Quarterly meetings (and ad hoc as indicated) will include (but not necessarily be limited to) the following activities in conjunction with the AFN member elected Treasurer, and AFN Bookkeeper:

  • Monitor finances: Oversee the balance sheet, investments, and capital structure.

  • Review financial statements: Ensure the integrity of financial reporting and statements.

  • Recommend policies: Propose budgets, goals, and policies that support the organization's mission.
