Janie Steckenrider

Janie Steckenrider graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Georgia School of Nursing in 2015. She began her career in labor and delivery, igniting her lifelong commitment to championing women’s health and addressing systemic gaps in care. Steckenrider has emerged as a forensic nursing leader dedicated to empowering survivors of violent crime and advancing trauma-informed practices within the healthcare system.

Steckenrider recognized a gap in forensic medical services during her time as Program Coordinator for LiveSafe Resources in Marietta, Georgia. In response, she partnered with Bridging Hope (formerly Rape Response) to establish a comprehensive, community-based forensic nursing program. Building the program from the ground up, she ensured that victims of violence receive holistic, compassionate care from specialized forensic examiners. Under her leadership, the program has become a cornerstone of support for survivors across six counties, offering forensic medical exams, advocacy, and expert consultations that prioritize dignity and autonomy.

She has led and contributed to impactful initiatives, including the creation of a universal sexual assault nurse examiner electronic medical record system now utilized by SANE programs across Georgia. Additionally, she collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security to deliver on-site forensic medical care during a human trafficking sting operation and actively participates in the Georgia Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Taskforce.

Steckenrider has three board certifications in forensic nursing and extensive experience as an expert witness. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner through Georgetown University and is expected to graduate in May 2026.
